Exciting new cutting-edge products are on the horizon within the rotorcraft industry this year. For example, I’ve come to learn that Thales and Standard Aero will soon introduce a compact, 4-axi helicopter autopilot system, a new automatic flight control system designed for Airbus AS350 and H125 helicopters (pictured above<\/em>).<\/p>\n

System weight is greatly reduced as this new intuitive system doesn\u2019t require a main flight control computer. Certainly, the company\u2019s successful flight test late last year was a key milestone in the Supplemental Type Certification (STC) process.<\/p>\n

Another futuristic development is Jaunt Air Mobility\u2019s effort to have an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in full rate production by 2026. It\u2019s described as a cross between a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. Jaunt is one of Uber Elevate\u2019s vehicle development partners.<\/p>\n

Flexibility & Communications

The global helicopter-based transportation market is expected to increase by $1.29 billion during 2021-2025, with 38 percent of that originating in North America, according to a recent research study by Technavio.<\/p>\n

One key driver is the rise of super mediums, with Technavio reporting an increase in the use of super mediums in the oil and gas industry. One reason is that these new helicopters can typically carry 16 passengers up to 150 nautical miles or even beyond, the average distance of offshore sites.<\/p>\n
